EC disallows 'communal' posters in Gujarat

The Election Commission on Friday took serious view of the Bharatiya Janata Party's "communal" hoardings and posters in Gujarat, which is going to assembly polls on December 12, and said such display is violative of the model code of conduct.

The commission ordered suitable action against the individuals or organisations responsible for such display.

The commission said it has come to its notice that a number of hoardings depicting the achievements of the BJP have been put up at the cost of the exchequer.

Such hoardings, even if put up prior to the announcement of elections on October 28, constitute a violation of the code of conduct, as they provide an undue advantage to the ruling party, it said.

The commission has sought a compliance report from the state election office.
