Musharraf meets top commanders in Islamabad

With war clouds looming large over India and Pakistan, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf on Thursday reviewed the prevailing situation along the border at a special meeting of the high-powered Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, attended by the three service chiefs besides top defence officials.

Addressing the meeting in Islamabad, Musharraf said while Pakistan stood for peace, the armed forces were 'totally prepared to respond effectively to any attempt of aggression'.

He expressed his fullest satisfaction with the operational preparedness of the three services, according to an official statement.

During the past few days, Musharraf has spent a great of deal time at the army headquarters in Rawalpindi chalking out a strategy to meet any possible crisis arising out of the tension on the Indo-Pak border.
