Britain to withdraw over 150
employees from Pakistan

In view of the sharp escalation in India-Pakistan tensions, Britain on Wednesday said it was withdrawing more than 150 diplomatic staff from Pakistan.

A spokeswoman said while 130 people were being withdrawn from Islamabad, 26 would be pulled out from Karachi.

"The security threat to British interests in Pakistan has led me to take the difficult decision to reduce the level of diplomatic representation there," Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said in a statement.
