After blaming India for the killing of Hurriyat leader Abdul Gani Lone in Srinagar, Pakistan on Tuesday night termed it as an act of terrorism and demanded an impartial inquiry into the incident.
A foreign ministry spokesman had accused that the killing was yet another incident in the "reign of terror unleashed by the Indian security forces".
It might be recalled that only last month a Shiv Sena leader had attacked Lone in Kashmir, he added.
A statement from the foreign ministry said, "The Government of Pakistan expresses its deep shock and sorrow over the news of the assassination of Abdul Gani Lone, a veteran Kashmiri leader."
The state television said that Lone was killed by "Indian agents".
President Pervez Musharraf in a statement also condoled the death of Lone.
Lone last visited Pakistan in November 2000 to attend the wedding of his son Sajjad with Asma, the daughter of Pakistan-based Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front leader Amanullah Khan.
During the visit, he was very critical of both Pakistan and India.
