The Sangh Parivar on Tuesday night welcomed the passage of the Anti-terrorism Bill by Parliament describing it as the "need of the hour" but asked opposition-ruled states to ensure that the law was not misused.
"We appreciate and welcome the passage of Anti-terrorism Bill. It is to be implemented by the state governments. Since most states are with the opposition, they should see to it that the law is not misused," RSS spokesman M G Vaidya told reporters.
Vaidya's remarks assume significance in the wake of vociferous demands from the opposition to ban Sangh Parivar outfits and arrest their leaders.
Speaking from Bhubaneshwar, Vishva Hindu Parishad senior vice-president Acharya Giriraj Kishore said: "The Bill should have been passed long back. It is the need of the hour."
"By opposing the law, the opposition was indirectly supporting the terrorists," he alleged.
Bajrang Dal national convener Surendra Jain, who is in Rohtak, also welcomed the passage of the Bill.
