Major reshuffle in Gujarat police

In the first major reshuffle in the state's police force since communal violence broke out nearly a month ago, the Gujarat government on Sunday transferred 27 senior officers.

Some top police officers, who acted to control the violence and booked those responsible, have been shifted to less important posts, official sources said.

Superintendent of Police, Mehsana district, Anupam Singh Gehlot, who did a good job in tackling the rioters, has been shifted to Bhavnagar.

The SP of Kutch district Vivek Srivastava, who had booked several Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Shiv Sena leaders has been transferred as deputy commissioner (prohibition) to Ahmedabad.
