Six killed in violence in Ahmedabad,
four areas under curfew

Six people were killed, five of them in police firing, as fresh outbreak of communal violence on Thursday rocked Ahmedabad prompting imposition of indefinite curfew in four sensitive localities.

Police opened fire to contain group clashes and disperse mobs setting fire to shops at Kalupur, killing five persons.

One person was stabbed to death in old Kalupur area.

Rapid Action Force and other paramilitary forces have been deployed in the affected areas.

In Baroda, police fired one around in the air to disperse a mob indulging in stone pelting in Shivpura area.

The mob damaged several shops in the area, police said, and added that the situation was under control now.
