No fresh violence; peace prevails in Gujarat

People in the violence-affected areas of south, central and north Gujarat took a sigh of relief with no untoward incidents reported since Wednesday, the police said on Thursday.

"No untoward incident was reported so far from the violence affected areas," a top police official said.

However, riot-affected areas of Modasa and Himatnagar towns of Sabarkantha district remained under curfew as the tension continued, he said.

In Bharuch and Baroda district towns, the situation remained peaceful and under control.

Tension-gripped south-central and north Gujarat areas which had witnessed group clashes and violence since February 28.

Barring an isolated incident of violence, in which two persons were killed and five others injured in Vatva area of the Ahmedabad on Wednesday morning, peace prevailed in other parts of city.
