Two shrines set on fire
in Haryana town

Two shrines, some shops and houses were set on fire by a mob agitated over rumours that a cow was slaughtered in a shrine in Haryana's Bhiwani district on Sunday.

Official sources said the mob attacked two shrines and about 20 shops and houses near the railway station in Loharu town. Police fired in the air to disperse the mob.

The main shrine and the palace of former Nawab of the erstwhile princely state of Loharu were saved, sources said.

Senior civil and police officers, including deputy commissioner and superintendent of police of Bhiwani, are camping in Loharu.
