Kashiram Rana visits Surat

Rana, who represents Surat in Parliament, appealed to the people to help usher normalcy in the larger interest of the business community as the city is the economic nerve centre of Gujarat.

Meanwhile, the army staged a flag march in Limbayat area where curfew is still in force.

As many as eight persons had sustained injuries on Sunday when police fired 64 rounds, burst teargas shells and hand grenades to check violence in the area, police sources said.

Curfew would be relaxed in two phases during the day in eight other troubled areas, they said.

Union Defence Minister George Fernandes would visit the curfew-bound areas later on Monday, official sources said.

Meanwhile, the overall situation in Bardoli in rural Surat district is well under control, they said adding night curfew would continue till Tuesday as a precautionary measure.
