Situation returning to normal in Aligarh

The situation in the old city areas of Aligarh, where two persons of minority community were killed in separate incidents on Friday, was fast returning to normal on Saturday, the police said.

Certain restrictions on movement of people, which were imposed on Friday, have now been 'completely removed' from five out of seven police station areas, senior superintendent of police, Brij Bhushan, said.

He said if the situation further improves, restrictions would be removed from the remaining two police station areas by Saturday evening.

Additional 17 companies of paramilitary forces, including four from Rapid Action Force and three from Central Reserve Police Force, have already been deployed, he said.

Meanwhile, a spokesman of the Aligarh Muslim University said that the university was functioning 'normally' and the meeting of the university's executive council to select the new vice chancellor will be held as per schedule on Sunday.
