Thirteen persons have filed their nominations for the presidential election, but candidatures of eight of them have been rejected.
The main contestants, noted scientist A P J Abdul Kalam, fielded by the National Democratic Alliance, and veteran freedom fighter Colonel Laxmi Sehgal, sponsored by Left parties, have not yet filed their nomination papers.
While Kalam is expected to file his nomination on Tuesday, Sahgal is likely to enter the fray formally on June 21.
The candidature of eight aspirants have been rejected as they did not fulfil the criteria required for contesting the election to the highest office, including security deposit of Rs 15,000 and a certified copy of the electoral roll, Rajya Sabha sources said.
None of these candidates have submitted the security deposit so far, they said.
