Of the nine, the papers of five have been rejected as they did not fulfil the criteria required for contesting the election, including a security deposit of Rs 15,000 and a certified copy of the electoral roll, the sources said.
None of the nine candidates have submitted the security deposit so far, they said.
One of the candidates, Mit Singh, came to the Communist Party of India-Marxist headquarters on Friday when a meeting of the Left parties was being held to take a final decision on their nominee.
Singh filed two sets of nomination papers, of which one was rejected and he showed to reporters at the CPI-M office a copy of what he claimed was an acknowledgement of his papers.
He was not given any audience by the Left party leaders, who announced the nomination of Sahgal.
