"We will be left with no choice but to contest for the high office of vice-president if the ruling NDA unilaterally tries to impose its candidate instead of reaching a consensus," party spokesman S Jaipal Reddy said.
Election for the vice-president's post is expected in August this year.

Asked whether the Congress would have consultations with other opposition parties on the issue, he said it would try to them into confidence.
Asked to comment on the decision of the Left parties and Janata Dal-Secular to field Dr (Colonel) Lakshmi Sehgal against Kalam, Reddy said, "I have nothing to say."
