Congress on Wednesday decided to have 'wider consultations' on the presidential election and said a decision would be taken in a 'day or two'.
The Congress Working Committee meet was held in the wake of President K R Narayanan's refusal to seek a second term.
"Today we had a meeting of the CWC but only those present in Delhi attended it. It was felt that the party should have wider consultations before taking any decision on such an important matter," Congress spokesman Jaipal Reddy said.
The meeting chaired by Congress President Sonia Gandhi lasting half an hour was attended by Pranab Mukherjee, R K Dhawan, L P Sahi, Mohsina Kidwai, Mahavir Prasad, Oscar Fernandes and Mukul Wasnik.
