Coming out of the second round of meeting of the People's Front in New Delhi, party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav said, "We have been saying that Kalam is a good candidate for President's post and we will support him."
Yadav, however, said the differences on Kalam's candidature would not have any effect on the People's Front and it would "remain intact and our fight against communalism will continue".
Kalam did not belong to any party. He was not from the Bharatiya Janata Party or any Sangh Parivar or Shiv Sena and "he is the right choice for the post", Yadav, who was the first to suggest his name for the top post, said.
Communist Party of India general secretary A B Bardhan said that the Samajwadi Party's view was different from the rest of the People's Front constituents.
The Left parties and the Janata Dal-Secular would meet on Wednesday to discuss the issue and take a decision, Bardhan said.
Asked whether the People's Front had broken up, Bardhan said, "We will tell you everything tomorrow."
