EC teams visit violence-hit
areas of Ahmedabad

A nine-member team deputed by the Election Commission for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation in the riot-ravaged Gujarat, visited some of the worst hit areas in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

The team, headed by deputy election commissioners A N Jha and S Mendiratta, held a meeting with state electoral officers before leaving on a tour of relief camps and violence affected areas of the city, official sources said.

The team was divided into three sub-teams -- three members each -- before they left for the survey and assessment work in the company of local officers.

The teams would return from the sites in the evening and hold another round of talks with the state electoral officers, sources said.
