Your Views: The only intention of Modi is to grab the votes from the majority population which is at present polarised. EC should not allow the elections until the riot-victims are rehabilitated. It will be very difficult for the affected people to vote if elections are held early.

Your Views:Yes. It is the right answer as far as the policies adopted by Cong that during the communal riots they were active at the back of the whole game & and at the front face before the media they only were the people to ask N. Modi's resignation So, now in my view Modi has openly invited through constitutional politics to fight election which they should not defend under morality before public.

Your Views:This is by far the best thing that happened in Gujarat. Mr Modi has stepped down a bit late but at least earlier than the next polls. This opportunity should be used by the people of Gujarat to keep Mr Modi out of politics forever. rehabilitation work will then proceed smoothly and a sigh of relief will come on the faces of people of Gujarat.

Your Views:the elections should not be held , right now as the BJP is trying to take advantage of killing minorities and in turn gaining sympathy of Hindus. the state is divided on communal lines and they want to go ahead to take advantage of this planned and created situation. I think , nothing can be done as BJP is at the helm of the affairs at Delhi too.only Hindus will vote and stop Muslims and other minorities from exercising their franchise. This is replica of J&K. Let us see can election commission is allowed to be on their in this grim period at gujrat.

Mr Modi has done his job of bringing back the situation to normal in Gujrat. There should not be any party politics involved while applying this. Your Views:In democracy, election is the final answer to all the critics. A fringe set of people are opposing the election citing the reasons of rehabilatation or lack of it etc. In case completion of rehabilitation process is the criteria to hold the election, then no election will be held for decades in all over India. Will the same logic applies, like unless every citizen is educated no voting will be held. Because, a educated person only will be able to vote after analyzing the various options put to him by our various parties.
Elections are the permanent answer. The big hue and cry is from those who presume and perceive that they are in losing end, because of their dual/vote bank policy all these years. If the issue was beneficial to them they would have cried for holding the election at the earliest.
Hope, good sense prevail on those who are opposing the election and they with all might fight the election, honorably accept the verdict of people.

Your Views:The hand of all the politicians are full of stains of innocent and poor people without any affiliation to any caste creed sex or religion. If Narendra Modi is a true Hindu first of all irrespective of religion bias should wipe out the tears of innocent victims of both Godhra and subsequent bloody, turmoil. By holding election u r proving that you do not have any values and what is prime importance is the vote of those uneducated and illiterate Hindus who can be bought over by religious talks and provocation. This is very bad for country. The society is going to be polarised more on the lines of religion.
There should not be any election in Gujarat till people are able to lead a normal and fearless life. Mr. Modi has failed on all counts. If he could take of law and order during yatra what happened to him during the mad riot which was continuing for months together.

Your Views:Definitely election is the answer. If the BJP govt did anything wrong in Gujarat the people definitely throw the BJP party from ruling. Only defeat fear all opposition is against the election. If they have the thrill to meet the election, why they are giving shouting in Parliament and outside. What is their role? If they genuinely think that BJP did any sin to the people of Gujarat, they can campaign against the ruling BJP and get the decision from people. Opposition have to give a clear mandate to people and if people of Gujarat need not require BJP they will throw the BJP from Power. Why unnecessarly opposition are creating noise is they know the truth with BJP. That why the opposition hesitate to contest the election now. Finally the answer is Election only. IF BJP is right they will win otherwise they will lose. If Opposition is correct they will win. Unnecessary they are creating problem in Public mind instead of giving sincere service to the people.

Rehabilitation work needs to be done at a much responsible and in an organised level throughout the state and this is possible only when a government is in place. This government must be unbiased, focussed on its priorities and in short be ideal to flip Gujarat to the other side of the coin.

Going for election and securing a seat for next 5yrs will not make him a true leader or a social icon, it will only help him retain his seat and earn. The question that I want to ask all the politician is that seat is important than ppl.
If they claim to be working for the people they should help in making a conducive environment where all Indians can live in peace and Harmony. The policy which is being followed by him is the age old policy that was prevelant under the British Raj.
Its high time that we should realise the true intentions of these leaders. I cannot suggest anything 'cos I don't think the situation can improve till the time we have such leaders in the society

Your Views:Hello,
I just want to ask a simple question, is it fair on normal indian citizen that a government which they have selected for 5 years to provide them with stability and basic necesities should be allowed to cut short in between by political whims and use the favourable atmosphere to reelect themselves and sit on head of poor citizens for another long duration?
We all know how much expenses and efforts goes in conducting elections and where does that money comes from...it comes from tax paid by us citizens..! So who gave these politicians rights to decide that they want to cut short there tenure and again face us with the ghastly expenses and bloodshed of elections again which puts enormous strain on the public machinery which should be used to provide goodwill to its local citizens! We are following a very wrong lesson here and it is just one of the very, very small chapter in the history of what is going on in gujrat! The irony is..apart from Narendra Modi who else is there whom people should give there votes and think that the elected person will provide them with better administration...Shankarsing Waghela...? The guy who created the political farce some years ago..! Think!

Your Views:As the atmospher is highly communally surgcharged, people are polarized hence the Religion become the issue of this election which it should not be. Main issue of the election should be development of the state as this will lead country and state to its bright future and poverty can be removed and the people have better goverment.
If the people choose goverment based on Religion not on its policy and work for development of the state so forth the Nation which should be the largest interest of the country to a nation for its development hence in this communally surcharged atmospher its not advisible to hold the election immd. let pass sometime and after that under president law the free and fair poll should be put in place hence in meantime relief and rehab of the riot victim should be first priority and than when these things get done all people will franchise the right to choose right goverment for their larger interest which should be development of nation and state on economical, technological, educational, poor welfare etc. not religious

When thousands of people are still living in camps, who will not be able to vote? If everything is normal, as Mr Modi claims, then where was the need for him to dissolve the assembly 9 months in advance? This shows that everything is not normal. But when Hindus got wiped out in Kashmir, where was this proactive media. Mumbai bomb blasts were justified as a reaction to Babri demolition. Godhra was justified as a reaction to VHP's activities in Ayodhya. It is this pseudo secularism that propels hindu revivalism because Hindus feel threatened by the media.

on riot-relief, the opposition

resignation of the Chief

this move back-fired on them,
when Narendra Modi offered to

they should not complain,
because they have been paid in

want him to be the Chief

matters is what people want.
So what if people want him to

The opposition's behaviour
had been biased all through.
They completely ignored the
sentiments of the majority
community and unreasonably

find it uncomfortable to face the

Your Views:From the the domocratic point of view, Mr. Modi is absolutely right in dissolving the legislature especially when opposition demanded it. But it does not give him an automatic choice to ignore the reality of the people of the state. He should have given more thrust on rehabilitation of people of Gujarat (not majority or minority) instead of trying to benefit from the current situation. He was and is the Chief Minister of entire Gujarat and not of a particular community. If any section of people suffers it is the responsibility of the state to reduce the sufferings without bothering of communities. This is especially when most of us whether majority or minority, we believe in Karma.
Therefore, in my view, the state government should have given more focus on the rehabilitation of its people rather than putting them into more pain and sufferings.

But unfortunately, Mr Modi has turned out to be a blatant communalist and fascist person whose sole aim is to retain power - and he is willing to engage in mass killing arson and rape to achieve it. Instead of elections, any CM in his position should first try to re-settle the unfortunate riot victims and improve the religious environment in the state. However it is also a fact that major oppposition parties and non-political organizations have been pointing fingers at the State Government underlining its shortcomings regarding riot-control and rehabilitation. Under these circumstances, I do not think a State Government can function effectively, being unsure about the support of the people and other political/apolitical units and being under constant, vigorous crticism. An election is the best possible option in front of the government to acquire some legitimacy. Also the major political parties would have the opportunity to throw out the present government by proving it's incapabilities. Only after a stable system is in place can one hope for effective rehabilitation for the downtrodden.

But the govt in Gujarat has proven it wrong. they are trying to convert it to a Hindu state. Whereas about 78% of the Hindus do not subscribe to the philosophy of Sangh/VHP/BJP. And especially holding elections when most of the people are scared, minorities not in their homes! How can a sane govt think of conducting elections at such a torrid time. Elections are supposed to he held in free and fearless environment when all can exercise their option. How can the people be considered free from fear when they are even afraid to return to their homes. If the BJP tries to prove that they have regained the confidence of the people by holding the elections now, not only the party but the NDA allies in the centre also will lose their ground. And people are never going to forgive Mr. Modi who will go down in the history as " Hindu version of Ghori, Ghaznavi and Tamer lame". So the majority of Indians which consists of 80% Hindus plead and pray to the Govt, Election Commission and all those who matter to not hold elections now.

But for now when the BJP has dissolved the Assembly in Gujarat and is seeking fresh mandate it is Congress which is running out of the race, as it was the Congress only which wanted the Gujarat Govt. to go after the Godhra incident. Now when BJP is seeking public mandate why should the Congress show its back and that to also putting Mr. Shankersingh Waghela as the opponent candidate. I think it is the parochial view of the Congress people even in intrepreting the Constitutional provisions (regarding 171 and 324). As far as rehabilitation is concerned it is only if one comes and actually studies the ground realities which are totally different than what has been aired by some tv channels.
Let people of Gujarat decide who will lead them. What have congress done these 50 years to this country is known well to the people. Pseudo secular congress have never thought of the people of India but have always cooked their roti on the name of secularism.

Coming to polarization of the society, do you think people will forget the same even after an year of president's rule. From now on, in all elections in Gujarat the division of vote bank will be purely on the basis of religion. No doubt in it, and I donno why some crib that the state is not prepared for elections. I donno what they mean by that, anyway half of the people never vote and they don't care what happens to Govt nor to the state. Which leaves only another half, the country faced general elections 3 times before within a span of 2 yrs, so this hardly matters. Its better to finish them off soon and see what their opinion of the current government is. I feel that a middle ground should be found for elections to be held in Gujarat. Admission of Amnesty International as impartial observers in the riots in Gujarat is critical to this way. They perform an excellent function both as impartial observer and as a witness to the horror that occurred both for Hindus and Muslims. Pakistan can gain little from Amnesty's entry into Gujarat. Further, the Indian government can gain nothing but notoriety in disallowing them to do their job which they have done so valiantly and heroically in all over the world. A cooperative stance with the international human rights agency will give greater impetus and direction to India's own election plans and greater legitimacy to its elected officials and citizens in the riot torn state. I strongly urge the Indian government to rethink its stand on Amnesty and allow it to enter as an impartial observer.
May God Bless India in her struggle for freedom and democracy for all.

Dear Editor:
I wish to add that India gains nothing by usurping the electoral voice of its citizens. It has a tradition of doing so, either by rushing to judgment in electing officials marred by political trouble to appease their party, or by running for outside support to gain time and confidence for its own program. A third way has to be found. India is a sophisticated democracy well able to withstand the most powerful and difficult storms of any nation. It should courageously and actively seek its people's vote and judgment on the Gujarat issue. Vox populi est vox dei. It is in this light that India should welcome all impartial observers into her state, if they are able to truly present a sincere commitment to justice and the rule of law. Freedom cannot be given it has be earned. Democracy in the fullfillment of the wishes of the people of Gujarat and India is a true test of this vision. Jai Hind.
Sincerely yours,
Joya Ganguly

BJP is bound to come back to power in Gujarat for the next 20 years, the least. So people... don;t say its not the right time for elections, but its an absolutely unnecessary exercise.
If the government is holding elections to show the world that democracy still exists in Gujarat, then yes... It's the right time. If you can hold elections in J&K where hundreds are being killed every month, why not Gujrat? Do we have different rules for different states? Talk about the Opposition... They are sure of not winning in Gujrat but its just that they are not able to digest this fact. They think they are the only saviors for the minorities in India. Poor Congress, they have been sitting in opposition for so long that they have lost their mind.
The Indian media, well the most of them... they are a shame. They want to be too liberal. I know its good to be liberal, but not at the cost of being stupid. When it comes to national integrity, I guess we have to be more matured in being liberal.

This election, in terms of its representative character, is going to be no different from other elections in the country. It is not going to bring out anything beneficial for the society. in J&K, why can't they be in Gujarat? Puul your heads out of the sand and be objective.

Your Views:Elections should happen in Gujarat. Some so called secular people are talking against Modi. Do they talk against Imam Bokhari, who supported the killings on 9/11 and who is the leader of fanatic Muslims. Hindus have been suffering from the Muslim extremism for centuries. The killings in Gujarat were initiated by Muslim mob backed by pseudo secular party 'Congress'. We all are against brutal killings in Gujarat. These incidents may repeat in the future, if we ignore the rising Muslim fundamentalism. If you are secular, you should always be neutral.

Your Views:Chief Minister Narender Modi has done a great job in maintaining law and order situation in Gujrat after ISI and Cong backed goondas butchered/slaughtered 58 innocent Ram Bhagats in Gujarat. By disolving assembly at this time, Modi has proven that he is not power hungry and given an opportunity to the people to do give verdict on his governance. The political parties and their big bosses from US and UK, which were after chief minister's blood until yesterday are looking for shields. It is interesting that all the so called progressive, secular anti hindu politicians have already presume they can not win the elections or Modi will surely be reelected that majority of Gujratis are communal and will not vote for them. This presumption is insulting and proud gujratis will answer to these shameless pseudo secularist.

Your Views: your preface of this poll itself is biased. From day one you have been in the forefront of a campaign to smear Mr. Modi, the RSS organizations and Hindus in Gujarat.
As such, this exercixe of yours too is an eye-wash. Why did you not have similar poll about elections in Bihar, W. Bengal and Kashmir where citizens are killed by thousands for years on end.
Gujarat as well as Bharat will be really peaceful only when
the pseudo-secular, Muslim appeasing, anti-Hindu media are cast into dustbin of history- and that will happen
a lot sooner than you think from your ivory towers.

Your Views:The elections are a must. For it was the opposition and the media which called for his resignation. And now when he has resigned and has agreed to face the electorate, why this hypocrisy? The opposition and the media must be ready to face reality and why are they shying away from it. Are they frightened of a Modi victory? They cannot have the cake and eat it too. Elections should be held at the earliest.

Your Views:Let the "Satya" be told: 1. Congress wants and will only get Minority (read Muslim) votes. They are scared BJP will ride to power with all the majority (read Hindu) votes. 2. After getting power in Gujarat and later power at the center BJP should do something concrete in real terms:
a. Establish a uniform civil code. Ban on polygamy, paedophilia, sodomy. b. Make J&K a fully functional state with all facilities extended to the Jammu and Ladakh region. If the janata of Bharatvarsha feel anything could be done, it's BJP alone. Congress is busy begging for Muslim votes. They have been doing that during partition. They want power at all costs, Congress don't care about Hindus, Muslims/minorities or anybody. Vote BJP with full majority in Gujarat and for the Center. Namastey and Jaihind.

Your Views:Election is the best answer to the Democracy. Here some of the people are talking about secularism. At least now, we can learn lessons from the Gujarat incidents, never ever use the words majority or minority. Instead of supporting particular community for the temporary gains, We should fight against the relegious extremism to solve the problem permanently.

Your Views:Since Mr. Modi has exercised a democratic option it must be faced. After all people of that state know better let that show it in the election. more than that whomever forms the new government atleast can think of rehabilitation with out any fear of facing election and the problem can be solved with the involvement of people. any way the relief works will not be stopped because of election in fact it may get a boost both from ruling as well as opposition side.
Hence there is nothing wrong for the state to go for early election.

Modi is not alone responsible for what is still happening there but opposition parties and social welfare groups should initiate to maintain peace and harmony in the state. As riot takes place in different part of major cities, election is not a correct solution.peple of gujarat should help police to identify the antisocialist element.

Your Views:Yes & No for elections depending on your viewpoint. Yes if you support the BJP or the Sangh Parivar or any of their fanatical organizations. No for everyone else.
Narenda Modi has followed the tried & tested BJP method. First, divide the people along religious lines, next say that the BJP support Hindus. Better still for them if some Hindus get killed for whatever reason. In this way Hindu voters will vote for BJP. They are trying to do the same in Gujarat. The Hindu voters must decide: either retain or remove BJP. As in the past, if elections are held in Gujarat, the BJP will win. Fact is that when the BJP comes back to power in Gujarat, the whole world will realize that Indian voters are fickle minded and vote for persons who cause riots and violence in the name of religion. Also the people will suffer, as it is happening now.
Remember Ayodhya in 1992. The next Lok Sabha elections made the BJP as the largest party. What about the Bombay riots in 1993. The next elections in Maharashtra saw the BJP & Shiv Sena coming to power. With such an attitude of Indian citizens is there any hope for India? The way things are going, the breakup of India will happen soon.

In Today's news Advani has Commented Stating Modi doesn't Need Certificate From the Opposition indeed he needs From the People. Opposition is not People are what .. and What opposition Stresses is Examine the Conditions before Conducting Election & then impose Presidents rule or Conduct Elections.. 2-3 Months back the Same BJP said Modi need Not Resign .. but What's the Reason behind his Resignation God only knows..Totally Advani, Madanlal Kurana & their Allies like George Fernandes hav Spoilt the hope People Had on BJP under Vajpayee..
