The Left Front presidential nominee Colonel Laxmi Sehgal on Tuesday warned against domination of US imperialism on the Indian economy.
"After the inception of INA government in 1943, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, during its first Cabinet meeting in Singapore, cautioned against the possible threat of British and US imperialism, as he felt imperialism and socialism can never coexist," Sehgal told members of the Left Front Legislature Party in Kolkata.
"Now it has been proved how perfect his observation was with the US-backed economic imperialism gradually establishing firm roots in the country," she said.
"If we have to survive, we need to change the order," the former commander of the Rani Jhansi regiment said.
She said, "A fight against these odds is worth taking. Winning or losing is not important.... I was always a fighter and continue to be so."
West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee described Sehgal as an embodiment of India's freedom movement.
