Bush 'waiting' to hear Musharraf's speech

US President George W Bush is concerned over the continuing threat of military confrontation between India and Pakistan as he looks forward to hear Musharraf's "important speech", scheduled for Saturday night.

"The president remains concerned about the region. Secretary Powell is travelling there at the president's direction," White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer said on Friday.

"The president continues to call on all the parties to recognise the importance of working to fight terrorism. India and Pakistan have a mutual enemy in terrorists," Fleischer said.

Bush praised what Musharraf has done so far but agrees he has to do more, Fleischer said adding that Washington will be closely monitoring Musharraf's speech.

Referring to Union Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani's comment that India wants action not words, Fleischer insisted that Musharraf has taken action, has arrested the leaders (of Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Tayiba) and closed down the offices of some of the terrorist organisations.
