Pak government denies report of Pearl's release

A Pakistan government spokesman on Saturday morning denied that kidnapped Wall Street Journal correspondent Daniel Pearl has been liberated and that he is scheduled to fly out of the country.

Pakistan's Dawn newspaper had reported on its website on Saturday morning that Pearl had been liberated and scheduled to leave for the United Kingdom by a Pakistan Internal Airlines (PIA) flight.

According to the Dawn, the US journalist was slated to leave Islamabad some time on Saturday morning.

However, the government spokesman told Pakistan's Jung newspaper that efforts to free Pearl are still on.

A source close to the Pearl family told rediff.com that the kidnapped journalist's wife has not received any news of his release.
