Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Saturday rubbished Pakistan's claim that India had a hand in the abduction of American journalist Daniel Pearl.
"Various allegations are being levelled. But the truth has not been found yet," he said a day after Pakistan Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar said the abductors of the Wall Street Journal reporter were in contact with officials of the Indian government.
Vajpayee said it was "very surprising" that a journalist had been abducted. "Journalists do their job and do not nurture any ill-will against anybody," he said.
The external affairs ministry, too, said Pakistan's allegations were "totally preposterous".
"It is a total charade. It is totally preposterous. Let them (Pakistan) come up with the names," a spokesperson said.
