Bharatiya Janata Party members of the Karnataka assembly on Tuesday demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the killing of former state minister H Nagappa.
BJP leader Jagdish Shettar led the agitated party members in the assembly and his counterpart in the legislative council, D H Shankarmurthy, charged the government with "failure" in handling the hostage crisis.
They shouted anti-government slogans and demanded the resignation of Chief Minister S M Krishna, Home Minister M Mallikarjuna Kharge and Agro-Processing Minister Raju Gowda, holding them "responsible for the killing" of the Janata Dal-United leader, who was abducted by Veerappan.
Kharge requested the agitated members to participate in a debate and urged them to decide their future course of action after the government gave its reply. But the BJP members refused to listen.
Speaker M V Venkatappa also pleaded with the opposition on the matter, but to no avail.
Later, twelve Bharatiya Janata Party legislators were evicted from the council and assembly proceedings were stalled, forcing its adjournment for the day.
JD-U leader P G R Sindhia's repeated attempts to move an adjournment motion on the issue in the assembly also fell through.
