Karnataka cabinet to meet on Saturday

As the hostage crisis enters the seventh day, the Karnataka cabinet is meeting again on Saturday to discuss steps to negotiate with forest brigand Veerappan to secure the safe release of JD(U) leader H Nagappa.

The state government is still weighing the option of sending a suitable emissary with whom Veerappan would be willing to talk to. Friday's meeting on the same issue did not throw up any result.

Two advocates - Subbukrishna and Venugopal - who had appeared for TADA detenues suspected to be aides of Veerappan, are being considered.

Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna had earlier said the government was working out a well-thought action plan to end the crisis, adding it did not involve use of force.

Besides the hostage crisis, the meeting will also discuss the Cauvery waters issue.
