BJP fears disruption of Gaurav Yatra launch

The Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to send a team of party workers to Phagvel village in Kheda district of Gujarat, from where Chief Minister Narendra Modi's controversial Gaurav Yatra will be launched on September 3, after reports suggested that a little-known organisation, the Bhati Sena, plans to disrupt it.

The Bhati Sena is named after Bhatiji, a kshatriya who was killed while opposing the slaughtering of cows.

The BJP held a meeting in Ahmedabad on Wednesday to take stock of the situation and assess the preparation for the yatra.

The yatra will be led by Modi and BJP state unit president Rajendrasinh Rana, according to party officials.

The state administration has beefed up security in the area following an announcement by the Bhati Sena that it would block the yatra.

Prohibitory orders are likely to be clamped in the village and additional police forces, including State Reserve Police personnel, will be deployed at Phagvel at the launch of the yatra, police sources said.
