Centre to give air surveillance facilities
to nab Veerappan

The Centre agreed to provide air surveillance facilities to nab Veerappan, sources said on Wednesday, as Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani assured Tamil Nadu of help in catching the forest brigand.

Emerging from a 20-minute meeting with Advani at the North Block in New Delhi, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said: "The home minister [Advani looks after the home ministry also] has promised to provide all possible assistance to the Tamil Nadu government."

She also handed over a letter to Advani requesting the Centre to provide support to the Special Task Force of Tamil Nadu, which is trying to catch Veerappan, who abducted Janata Dal leader H Nagappa a few days ago.

A Tamil Nadu government statement said Jayalalithaa sought from the Centre surveillance aircraft, interception equipment, helicopters and remote sensing devices and paramilitary troops to supplement the efforts of the STF.
