Drive to revise Gujarat voters' list launched

The Election Commission launched a special drive in Gujarat on Wednesday to revise electoral rolls in the districts, the state's chief electoral officer, Gurucharan Singh, told reporters in Baroda.

The drive will be taken up in all districts, except the Dangs and Jamnagar, till September 18, Singh said.

The special drive will consist of a door-to-door visit by a team in the riot-affected areas, for deleting the names of voters who have permanently left their residences, and including the names of new voters who have moved in.

Those voters who have temporarily left their residences will have to make a declaration for continuing their names in the voters' lists, Singh said.

Voters whose names are missing or want some changes in the electoral rolls have been asked to approach the respective mamlatdar and prant (regional) officers, he said.

The electoral rolls were earlier revised on May 15 this year.
