With Janata Dal (United) leaders descending on Hanur in Chamarajnagar district following the abduction of H Nagappa, the Karnataka government is coming under increasing pressure to take the initiative soon in securing the former minister's release.
Former ministers P G R Scindia, Bache Gowda and JD (U) MLAs from the district are in the town. Union Food and Civil Supplies Minister Srinivas Prasad (Samata Party) has also reached the place and BJP leader Yediyurappa is expected to join them.
However, the government is still to come up with an official statement, which is expected some time in the evening.
Janata Dal (United) leaders are talking to agitated party supporters in the town.
Nagappa's abduction had sparked anger among the residents of Hanur and nearby villages who drove local policemen out of the town for failing to prevent the incident.
Angry crowds even damaged some vehicles, including those belonging to the police.
Though the situation is now under control, police have had to stay outside Hanur.
