Vaiko cynosure of all eyes

MDMK leader Vaiko, who is in the eye of a storm over his detention under POTA by the Tamil Nadu government, stole the limelight during the vice-presidential election on Monday.

Vaiko, arrested for his pro-LTTE utterances, is the first member of Parliament to be arrested under the provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA).

Flown to Delhi from Chennai after the Madras high court gave him permission to vote, Vaiko was mobbed by journalists and photographers when he arrived in Parliament accompanied by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pramod Mahajan.

However, he refused to speak to mediapersons, as per the instructions of the high court, Mahajan explained.

Inside Parliament, MDMK ministers at the Centre M Kannappan and Gingee Ramachandran were constantly by their leader's side.
