Kalam's visit a matter of pride: Modi

Asked how he felt about Kalam having chosen Gujarat for his first visit outside New Delhi after being sworn in as President, Modi said, "It is a matter of pride for us. He has said that the two men whom he admires are Gujarati. That only enhances the glory of the state."

During his visit to the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad where he interacted with schoolchildren, the President had said that Mahatma Gandhi and scientist Vikram Sarabhai -- both from Gujarat -- were his role models.

Kalam's interaction with the kids at the ashram would be a source of inspiration for the crores of children in the country, Modi said.

"It (the interaction) was very inspiring. His views on how to transform India from a developing nation into a developed one, on how to succeed in life, are invaluable," the chief minister said.

"Moreover, he spoke to the children in a language they could understand," Modi noted.
