Hours before President A P J Abdul Kalam's visit to Gujarat, the state government on Sunday night distributed cash doles to victims of the recent communal violence.
The aid was distributed late in the night at the Haj House relief camp in Ahmedabad and each family got a minimum of Rs 1,250.
The distribution of cash comes close on the heels of Election Commission pulling up state government officials about their handling of the situation.
The Haj House relief officials, however, refused to comment on the distribution of money.
