Modi Cabinet to decide on fresh election

The Gujarat Cabinet will decide on Wednesday whether to recommend dissolution of the state assembly and hold a fresh election, state Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary Nalin Bhatt said in Gandhinagar on Monday.

Bhatt told reporters that Chief Minister Narendra Modi had been authorised by the state unit of the party to take the appropriate decision on dissolution of the assembly and holding a fresh election.

The decision to empower the chief minister to formulate the future course of action on dissolution of the assembly was taken at a meeting of the party's coordination committee and its office-bearers, which lasted three hours late on Sunday night, Bhatt told the Press Trust of India.

The meeting, attended by 25 state BJP leaders, was presided over by its Gujarat unit chief Rajendrasinh Rana, who presented the report of the party's national executive meeting in Goa.
