Modi needs all help he can get: BJP

A day ahead of its national executive meeting in Goa, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday ruled out the removal of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

"We have our party position very clear. This is the time the chief minister needs all support from all parties. Instead of supporting him, the parties are after him," BJP president Jana Krishnamurthy said.

Almost all parties have asked for Modi's resignation for his failure to stop the violence in Gujarat.

Asked if the decision to keep Modi was aimed at consolidating the Hindu votes, he said: "There is no basis to consolidate."

As long as Modi enjoyed the support of the majority in the state legislature he would continue as chief minister, the BJP president said
