Cops transferred in connection with attack on scribes

The Gujarat government on Sunday night transferred two Indian Police Service officers, including an additional police commissioner, suspended a police inspector and ordered a judicial probe into the attack on journalists at Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad.

Additional Commissioner of Police Shivanand Zha and Deputy Commissioner of Police V M Pargi were transferred while Inspector Mehra was suspended in connection with the attack, Health Minister Ashok Bhatt said.

He said the decision on who would head the inquiry would be taken later.

Twelve journalists, covering a peace meeting, were injured in police action at the ashram, as angry protestors mobbed Narmada Bachao Andolan leader Medha Patkar.
