Fresh violence in Gujarat, one killed, 6 injured

Police opened fire to disperse unruly mobs in Patharkuan and Vatva areas while stray violence was reported from Kadiakui area in Kalupur locality in Ahmedabad in the evening, resulting in injuries to two persons, police said.

One person was stabbed at Kadiakui and another injured in stone-throwing by a mob at Pattharkuan, police said.

Police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the mob and arrested three persons. Three crude bombs were recovered from the arrested persons, police said, adding curfew was imposed as a precautionary measure.

In Karani police station area, two persons, who were stabbed by miscreants, were hospitalised.

One person was stabbed to death at Vatva on the outskirts of the city during curfew-relaxation. Police said the incident was the outcome of personal enmity.

In Lunavada town, an accident between a rickshaw and a tractor resulted in violence as the vehicles were being driven by men of different communities, police said.

Curfew has been imposed in the town, which is near Godhra, they said.

Night curfew continues to remain in force at many places in south, central and north Gujarat where the situation is under control but tense.
