Vajpayee visits Godhra railway station

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, heading a high-level ministerial team to take stock of the situation in violence-torn Gujarat, arrived in Godhra on Thursday.

He visited platform no. 1 at the Godhra railway station, where 58 kar sevaks were burnt alive by a mob on February 27, triggering communal clashes across the state. Over 800 people were killed in these clashes.

Vajpayee is accompanied by several Union ministers, including Health Minister C P Thakur, Law Minister Arun Jaitley and Sports Minister Uma Bharti.

During his day-long tour, Vajpayee would also visit two relief camps in Ahmedabad and hold discussions with Governor S S Bhandari and Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
