Scindia improved work ethic at Railways: Nitish Kumar

Madhavrao Scindia improved the work culture of the Indian Railways and give a new dimension to its functioning, Union Railway Minister Nitish Kumar said on Sunday evening.

"The entire fraternity of the Indian Railways join me in condoling his death," Kumar said.

Scindia served as railway minister in Rajiv Gandhi's government in the late 1980s.

Nitish Kumar's inauguration of the Dehra Dun-Kathgowdan passenger train, scheduled for Monday, has been postponed as a mark of respect to the former railway minister, a spokesperson for Northern Railway said.

In Hyderabad, former Indian captain Mohammed Azharuddin expressed shock over Scindia's death.

In an emotion choked voice Azhar spoke of Scindia's tenure as Board of Control for Cricket in India president, ''He was a team man and an excellent person. He was a players' man and during his tenure helped the players to express their problems to him in person."

''It was during his tenure that I got a new lease of life as captain after the disastrous tour of South Africa in 1992, " Azhar said.
