Fire breaks out in Pakistani army headquarters

A Correspondent in Islamabad

A fire broke out at Pakistan's army headquarters in Rawalpindi on Wednesday morning, though no major damage was reported.

Initial reports said the fire broke out shortly after 0400 hours (Pakistan time) due to a short circuit causing damage to buildings, stationery and records.

The fire, which spread through the entire structure, was brought under control by 0930 hours.

The incident comes two days after Pakistan President Gen Pervez Musharraf reshuffled the army's top brass and ousted pro-Taleban elements.

Army spokesman Major General Rashid Qureshi said, "An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway."
