Former president of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee Salman Khursheed on Monday repeated his charge of callousness on the part of the district administration in Mainpuri where Madhavrao Scindia and seven others lost their lives in a plane crash on Sunday.
Khursheed was amongst the first political leaders to reach Mota village in Bohgoan tehsil of Mainpuri district in UP, the site of the crash.
"I reached the place at around 7:30 pm, and to my horror I found that the police had not even done the panchnama of the bodies. The plane had crashed at around 1:15 pm."
"A good six hours after the accident, the district administration had done practically nothing. It was only after UP Chief Minister Rajnath Singh reached the spot that the things started moving. When my wife reached the scene of the crash around 4:30 pm there was no policeman in the area," Khursheed said.
According to Khursheed, the villagers had helped the workers of the Congress in bringing the bodies to the main road, from where they were taken to Agra.
"In between an air force helicopter landed and the personnel asked if they could help in rescuing anyone. Since they did not have the permission to take the bodies on board they could not do much," he said.
Denying that he was trying to create a fuss, Khursheed said, "If they had moved fast we could have brought the bodies on Sunday night itself. We left the scene of the accident around 12.30 at night. We reached Agra at four in the morning and were able to fly them to Delhi at six."
"Madhavrao Scindia was not an ordinary politician. He was a national leader. I hope the chief minister keeps his words and takes action against those who are found guilty," he said.
