Biju Janata Dal supports POTO

Imran Khan in Bhubaneswar

At a time when a majority of the members of the National Democratic Alliance have opposed the Prevention of Terrorism Ordinance promulgated by the Centre to counter terrorism, the Biju Janata Dal has announced its support to it.

Stating that the implementation of the ordinance has become necessary in Orissa in view of the increasing number of attacks on police by extremists, particularly belonging to the People's War Group, general secretary of the BJD, Narendra Kumar Swain, said extremists from outside the state are crossing the border to create problem in the tribal dominated areas.

Swain said strict implementation of POTO is necessary to nip the Naxalite menace in the bud.
