Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Monday night said he hoped to discuss the issue of a post-conflict government in Afghanistan with US President George Bush when he visits Washington later this week.
Speaking to newspersons after a meeting with the speaker of Russia's powerful lower house of parliament (Duma) Gennady Seleznyov, Vajpayee said, "This time the whole world has joined hands to fight terrorism and India is playing its own part."
"I hope that I have talks in Washington on the Afghan situation. We are going to deal with the issue of post-war scenario and how the reconstruction can take place and how the people are rehabilitated," he said.
He said India and Russia are victims of terrorism and both are fighting it together. "We want the terrorism to be defeated and we want the people of Afghanistan to elect their own government and live in peace."
The prime minister said he had also discussed the Kashmir issue with Seleznyov and 'Russia has always supported us on this'.
Both Vajpayee and Seleznyov firmly opposed the induction of the Taleban in a future dispensation in Afghanistan saying the militia has no room in a broad-based coalition in Kabul.
