The Rangers backed, by the Pakistan army, started firing indiscriminately on 32 different civilian and BOPS in R S Pura, Samba and Akhnoor sub-sectors along the IB on the Jammu frontier on Tuesday evening, they said.
BSF troops guarding the IB retaliated and the exchange of fire continued till Wednesday morning, the sources said adding there was no loss of life or damage to property.
"It was the ninth day of continuous firing by Pakistani Rangers along the IB after a complete halt of border firing for over six months," they said.
The firing by Pak Rangers started with the commencement of border fencing along IB in Jammu by the BSF to stop trans-border infiltration of armed militants from Pakistan, the sources said adding it would go ahead with the fencing.
