The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh Monday endorsed the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance government's decision to withdraw the ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir and invite Pakistan's Chief Executive General Pervez Musharraf for talks even as Vishwa Hindu Parishad said the proposed dialogue would be a "futile exercise."
"The government has taken the right step by withdrawing the ceasefire. The unilateral ceasefire had become meaningless," RSS joint general secretary Madan Das Devi said in an interview to the organisation's mouthpiece Panchjanya.
The RSS leader, who looks after the outfit's relationship with the BJP, said the government will keep in mind national interests while talking with the Pakistani leader.
"We consider the prime minister's bold initiative appropriate," he said.
However, the VHP said talks with Musharraf would be a "futile exercise".
"Their (Pakistan's) existence is based on anti-India ideology. They will never talk peace," VHP senior vice-president Acharya Giriraj Kishore told PTI.
