Cong-TMC may stake claim in Pondy

Feverish political activity began in Pondicherry on Monday, where no front has managed to secure a majority, even as the Congress-Tamil Maanila Congress alliance, with 13 seats in the 30-member assembly, is likely to stake its claim to form the government.

Chances of the Congress-led alliance forming a viable government would depend on its securing All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagan support, an ally in Tamil Nadu, which has secured three seats.

AIADMK supremo Jayalalitha on Monday told reporters in Madras that if the Congress-TMC combine sought the support of her party 'it would be given'.

Former chief minister V Vaithyalingam is likely to be chosen leader of the alliance legislature party, Congress sources said.
