The Congress-Tamil Maanila Congress combine emerged the single largest alliance winning 13 seats, but fell short of a simple majority by three as results for all 30 constituencies in the Pondicherry assembly were announced Sunday.
The opposition Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led alliance came a close second bagging 12 seats, while the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-Patali Makkal Katchi front finished a poor third claiming only three.
The remaining two seats were taken by independents.
The ruling Congress won 11 seats while its ally TMC two.
In the DMK front, DMK won seven seats, the Pudducherry Makkal Congress four and the BJP one.
BJP made its maiden entry to the assembly with its candidate A M Krishnamurthy winning from Reddiyarpalayam seat.
The PMK, which contested 10 seats, drew a blank.
