No summons or charges against me:
Karunanidhi

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagham president and former Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi, who was taken into custody at 0145 hours (IST) on Saturday morning, said the police did not produce any summons or inform him of the charges against him when the came to arrest him.

"There were no summons or charges against me. I was asleep when the police woke me up and informed that I was under arrest," he said.

He said the police manhandled him and tore his shirt, when they took him into custody.

The police also took Union Commerce and Industry Minister Murasoli Maran to the Vepary Police station, where Karunanidhi had been detained.

When Maran resisted, policemen physically lifted him, put him in a car and took him to the police station, DMK sources alleged.

The family members of the 77-year-old Karunanidhi, including his wife Dayalu and daughter Selvi, were also taken to the police station, DMK sources said.
