Vajpayee meets former PMs on Indo-Pak summit

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has been quietly on the job of consulting senior political leaders and experts for charting out government's approach to Indo-Pak talks scheduled from July 14 to July 16, official sources said.

This is in sharp contrast to Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's publicity blitz in the run-up to talks, sources added.

Vajpayee has met former prime ministers P V Narasimha Rao and V P Singh and listened to their perception on the direction that needs to be followed in the talks, sources said.

The Prime Minister heard in detail the experiences of both Rao and Singh in dealing with Pakistan and also their suggestions on India's approach during the talks with the Pakistan President.

As part of his preparations for the Agra Summit, Vajpayee is also meeting former prime minister Chandra Shekhar, Telugu Desam Party leader Yerrannaidu besides intellectuals, experts and academics including former foreign secretary M K Rasgotra.

Broad parameters for the talks is expected to be outlined next week before the July nine all-party meeting convened by the Prime Minister.
