Talks a waste, jihad is the only solution: Lashkar

Lashkar-e-Tayiba, a Pakistan-based terrorist outfit, said on Monday that talks between New Delhi and Islamabad were a "waste of time" and jihad [holy war] was the only solution.

"Talks with India are a mere waste. Jihadis never bother about the government slogans of talks with India," Lashkar chief Hafeez Mohammad Sayeed said.

He claimed that Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has put forward a condition to ban the Lashkar. He warned Pakistan not to succumb to Indian pressure to ban the outfit.

"In case the rulers submit before the outer pressure, there will be no compensation for this loss," the Lashkar's Web site quoted him as saying.

Without naming anybody, he said no force could stop the mujahideen from waging jihad against anti-Islamic forces.

Sayeed said, "We are fighting to defend Islam and Pakistan. We never bothered about Britain declaring Lashkar-e-Tayiba a terrorist organisation."
