Don't expect much from summit: RSS

Striking a pessimistic note on the forthcoming India-Pakistan summit, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh said on Saturday that people should not have much expectation of the talks between President Pervez Musharraf of Pakistan and Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

"Don't expect much. We have been talking with Pakistan for long," RSS spokesman M G Vaidya told reporters in New Delhi.

"Even in 1971-72 when we had an upper hand over Pakistan, we could not make them agree to our conditions," he said.

Vaidya, however, added, "It is good they are talking. 2001 is not 1971."

The RSS spokesman came down heavily on the separatist All-Parties Hurriyat Conference, saying, "They ought to have talked to the Centre's principal interlocutor on Kashmir K C Pant. Instead, they come and meet the Pakistani high commissioner here. If Pakistan is going to decide what Hurriyat will do, what is the point in talking to them. We may as well talk to Islamabad."
