Check rhetoric, Musharraf tells Vajpayee

Pakistan's military ruler General Pervez Musharraf on Wednesday complained that some statements emanating from India were not "proper" for a dialogue between the two countries.

According to an official statement released in Islamabad, General Musharraf made this observation when Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee telephoned him to discuss the details of the Pakistani leader's visit to India from July 14 to 16.

The statement said the two leaders exchanged views in an atmosphere of complete cordiality and understanding.

"General Musharraf drew the attention of the Indian prime minister towards some statements emanating from New Delhi lately, which he said were not proper for a dialogue between the two countries," the statement said.

"The Indian prime minister agreed with the chief executive that a conducive atmosphere is necessary for talks," the statement added.
